What is a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)?
A PHEV is a type of New Energy Powertrain that you can plug into an external power source, such as a charging station or wall socket. It drives a certain distance using electric power before switching to the internal combustion engine.
How is a PHEV different from a typical hybrid or electric vehicle?
PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) uses both a battery and an internal combustion engine. You can charge it from an external power source – Long Pure Electric Range.
HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) relies on regenerative braking and an internal combustion engine to recharge. Does not need an external charge source – Short Pure Electric Range
BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) relies on an external charge source and doesn’t have an internal combustion engine— Electric Range Dependent on Number of Motors.
What makes the J7 SHS special as a PHEV?
It has High Battery Level Capacity and offers robust power and torque, but with low fuel consumption.
How do I charge the J7 SHS?
On the right-hand side, there is a charge port with an LED light indicator that shows during connection and charging.
Can I charge the J7 SHS at home?
Yes, you can charge it at home from a wall socket – “slow charging”.
Where can I charge the J7 SHS away from home?
At any third-party charge station available to the public.
How long does it take to fully charge the J7 SHS?
On a DC 40 kW charging station, 20 Mins (30% ~ 80%) and an AC 6.6 kW charging station, 200 Mins (30% ~ 80%).
Can I use a normal household plug?
Yes, you can use a standard wall socket for “slow charging”. More information about available charging accessories will be shared.
Can I drive the J7 SHS without ever charging it?
Yes, the SHS can be driven without being charged.
How far can I drive in electric-only (EV) mode?
90 km Pure Electric Range
What happens when the battery runs out?
In order to maintain battery health, it is unable to reach 0%. The only scenario where the battery would be allowed to reach 0% is if the fuel tank is empty and the vehicle has no other power source.
How far can I go using both petrol and battery power?
Approximately 1 200 km.
Does the car automatically switch between petrol and electric modes?
When the SHS Battery is at 100%, it will automatically default to EV mode. It also allows the option to manually switch between full electric and petrol modes.
How much money can I save on fuel?
With a range of 1 200 km on a fully charged battery and full tank, you could save 20% on your TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), depending on different driving scenarios and conditions.
Is charging cheaper than refuelling?
R350 approximately on a DC fast charger compared to R25,49 per litre*
Do I need any special maintenance for a PHEV?
The only difference is making sure the battery charging conditions are in order, monitoring battery health, and operating software related to charging.
Is it safe to drive or charge in the rain?
Yes, it is. The battery pack is highly protected and reinforced.
Can I still drive the car if I haven’t charged it for a while?
Yes, you can. The J7 SHS will continue to work by utilising the internal combustion engine.
Can I use the J7 SHS for long road trips?
Most definitely, the SHS offers a combined range of 1 200 km.
Does driving the SHS feel different to a petrol SUV?
When operating on battery power, the vehicle is quieter than a normal internal combustion engine.
What is regenerative braking, and how does it work?
Regenerative braking adapts kinetic energy, converting it to electrical energy and recharging the battery. Braking or slowing down, “stepping off the accelerator”, helps to recover energy. This assists with improving and extending vehicle range.
